This week David Ogilvy would’ve been a hundred years old. I’m a huge fan of his and i adore the way he thought. I remember reading Ogilvy on Advertising when i was younger and gasping at his description of a copywriter thinking to myself… dude, isn’t that you..?!
But what i admire most about Ogilvy was how he consistently demonstrated that simplicity was key, whatever the campaign. And even now that media has evolved into so many forms… traditional, digital, mobile and social… the best campaigns are still the ones that stand on ONE simple idea; and finding it is still the biggest challenge.
Anyways, here are 3 of his ads. Each one a groundbreaker in itself. Each one illustrating the power of the headline. The power of good copywriting.
And here are some of his thoughts for those who want more.
